Lavender is a wildlife magnet. The lavenders here at Tiny Trowels are currently alive with bumblebees, honey bees and Cabbage white butterflies which means the children get to have a great close-up look at these insects. Another great reason to grow this plant is for the scent of its flowers. Children love picking the flowers and once they have they can be dried out and kept.
Where to plant
Lavenders love the sun so a spot where they can bathe in full sun is perfect. They are not keen on clay soils prefering a light soil and they will cope with drought conditions.
Over 2500 years ago, lavender was used in ancient Egypt during the mummification process.
